Today you will do a short research assignment on the speed of sound. You can use a cellphone, computer, or the textbook to find the answers. You will learn about sound in space (is there any?), the speed of sound in air and how it depends on temperature, the mach number, sound barrier, sonic booms, etc. Watch the videos below as well...
[we are doing this lesson a bit out of order because I am away - we will pick back up tomorrow with periodic waves and then move into sound next week and pick back up from here]
Watch planes breaking the sound barrier - listen for the loud "boom" and "why is there a vapour build up around the plane?"
Sonic Boom - The tip of a whip breaks the speed of sound!
