1. Finish Concept Map (if not completed yesterday) 2. Work period: Review Package (+ additional review) - TEST IS ON WEDNESDAY (Sept. 27, 2017) Generating Electricity in Sewers!Amazing Article about Electricity production by placing turbines and generators within sewer systems...read the article and watch the video and post a comment in this comment section. http://magazine.good.is/articles/portland-pipeline-water-turbine-power Building Simple Speakers (Motor Principle in Action!)Today we are building speakers and then learning about Faraday's Law of Electromagnetic Induction.
Transformers are used to step-up (increase) or step-down (decrease) voltage. They are extremely important in our everyday lives. They are used to step-up voltage at a power generating station so that electricity can travel long distances with very little energy loss (low current flow) to your neighbourhood and then is stepped back down so you can use it in your home at safe voltages and high current. They are used in your cell-phone and computer chargers as well - look at the back and you'll see. But...how do they work? Instructions
The following three downloads are in the package you were given in class, but are also available for download below.
Today we are doing a few things. We will start with a lesson about Solenoids / Helixes (coiled wires) and how the RHR for current carrying conductors works when you coil a wire up. SPOILER: It is just Oersted's principle in action, but we get field amplification! 1. Electromagnet Lesson & Electromagnet Problems 2. Learn about and use the electromagnet equation.
